Pouring the Metal

Once you are done setting up the pour site, it's time to actually pour the piece. Put on all of your required safety gear and heat up the crucible with your metal. This is also the stage where this process gets its name as when you pour the metal into the foam pour cup and form, the metal will be dissolving the foam form while simultaneously replacing the negative space it creates with metal. This is also where the vents created earlier come into play as they allow for the escape of the now gaseous Styrofoam fumes from the pour site.

The image above is an in process pouring of bronze (unfortunately the aluminum pour was not completely documented). The image to the right was taken just following the aluminum pour while the metal is still semi-liquid.

Note: Be sure to wear a respirator throughout the entire Pouring process as Styrofoam gas is extremely toxic.
