Metal Chasing
Once all of your pieces in the sand resin have been poured and have cooled down. its time to get rid of excess metal and cleanup up any messy spots on the form. Start off by first cutting off all of the gates and sprues attached to the form as seen in the image to the left. After that use grinders and rasps to cleanup sprue, gate, and any other unwanted marks left on the metal form.
This is also the stage when additional textures can be made via air chisels and metal punches. For my cast iron piece i made additional textures with an air chisel and did some burnout washes followed by wire brushing to give the sculpture a dark glossy look. You can also patina or sand blast the form depending upon your desired effect for the completed form.
